According to Dr. Otar Lortkipanidze, the name Vani means “the house”, “station”, “town”, “dwelling” in Old Georgian language. According to the legend, a cross was erected on the territory of Vani by Andrew the First-Called.

VANELOBA

On September 21, the traditional public holiday "Vaneloba" will be held in the municipality of Vani, which will be loaded with various cultural and sports activities at different locations. The tradition of Vaneloba originally began in june 2,2010, this date symbolically coincided with the opening of the temple named after Saint Nino's parents, Zebulon and Sosana, in the center of Vani.

The town with the population of 4,544 is an administrative center of the Municipality of Vani comprising also 40 neighbouring villages (total area – 605 km2; population – 24,512).
